It is well known that estrogens and certain progestin preparations increase the risk for venous thromboembolism (VTE). A woman on an anticoagulant may have heavy menstrual bleeds and hormonal therapy – such as estrogen-progestin contraceptives – may be considered to decrease the bleeding.
